Our Doctrine

The following statement serves as the Articles of Faith for Canyon on Campus and represents a concise version of the historic London Baptist Confession of 1689 (LBC 1689). Prepared to encapsulate the core beliefs of our organization, it aligns with the foundational principles of our spiritual heritage, providing unity and guiding our mission. For a more comprehensive understanding of these matters, or for any clarification, we encourage students to seek guidance from the Advisory Team and the LBC 1689 as adapted by Canyon Bible Church of Prescott. It is our desire to uphold these historic and essential Christian doctrines while fostering an environment that encourages spiritual growth and missional living among students.

Articles of Faith

Article I: The Holy Scriptures

We believe that the Holy Scriptures, consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, are divinely inspired and without error in their original writings. They are the supreme and final authority for faith and life.

Article II: The Triune God

We believe in one true and living God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are equal in essence, power, and glory.

Article III: The Sinfulness of Humanity

We believe that all humanity, by nature, is sinful and separated from God. We are incapable of saving ourselves and in need of God's grace for redemption.

Article IV: Salvation by Grace

We believe that salvation is a gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. His sacrificial death and resurrection provide forgiveness of sins and eternal life for all who trust in Him.

Article V: The Person and Work of Christ

We believe in the deity and humanity of Jesus Christ. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for sinners, and was raised bodily from the dead. He ascended to heaven and will return to judge the living and the dead.

Article VI: The Work of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts, regenerates, and indwells believers. He empowers them for Christian living, convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and gives spiritual gifts for the building up of the church.

Article VII: The Church

We believe that the universal church consists of all true believers, regardless of denominational affiliations. We commit ourselves to be part of a local community of believers, seeking to grow in faith and live out our calling in Christ.

Article VIII: Baptism and the Lord's Supper

We believe that baptism by immersion is the biblical mode for believers, signifying their identification with Christ in His death and resurrection. The Lord's Supper is a memorial of Christ's sacrificial death and a proclamation of His return.

Article IX: Christian Conduct

We believe the mission of every Christian is to represent God on earth, to glorify him and proclaim the gospel to others, making disciples who make disciples. Central to this is personal holiness, in obedience to God's Word, to faithfully demonstrate Christ's transformative power.

Article X: Final Things

We believe that the state of the souls of men, the wicked and righteous, immediately after death, involves either being made perfect in holiness and received into heavenly bliss for the righteous or facing condemnation and torment for the wicked. We believe in the personal, visible, and glorious return of Jesus Christ. His coming will culminate in the resurrection of the dead and the final judgment of all humanity.
